about FCMOCA

The mission of the Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art is to engage our community in cultural experiences that promote the appreciation of contemporary art.

To offer our audiences the best possible art experiences, FCMOCA presents a diverse series of exhibitions, community events, publications and educational programs. Our goal is to educate a broad audience about contemporary art and promote awareness and appreciation of the artistic accomplishments of local, regional and national artists.

The Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art is the only private, not for profit art museum in Fort Collins. The museum presents a full array of programs consistent with its educational mission and commitment to reaching out to a broad, diverse audience. Each of our 7 to 10 exhibitions per year is accompanied by an exhibition brochure intended to inform visitors about the exhibition, while also challenging them to think for themselves and encouraging them to come to their own conclusions about the art on view.

The museum is fortunate to have three outstanding volunteer committees that organize the museum's Studio Tour, Living with Art and Masks at MOCA special events. Through these events, the entire community has an opportunity to become involved in Fort Collins' thriving arts scene.

The Studio Tour takes place every fall and invites the community to visit over 50 local and regional artists studios and experience first-hand the art making process. Living with Art takes place in the late fall and offers participants the opportunity to visit the home of local collectors and learn about art of collecting art. During February and March, Masks at MOCA makes it possible for professional and amateur artists alike to decorate a mask that is displayed and then auctioned to benefit the museum's educational programs. For information about these events, contact the museum at 970-482-2787.

FCMOCA collaborates with a wide variety of other educational and cultural institutions. The museum's partnership with Poudre Valley School District makes curriculum-related tours available to area students and museum staff have collaborated with Colorado State University, OpenStage Theatre and the Lincoln Center to offer audiences multippoints of entry and venues for contemporary art and film.

The museum's audience reflects our community and includes people of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds. In 2007 and 2008, through a generous grant from the Colorado Council on the Arts ARTREACH program, the museum is entering into a partnership with Half-Moon Arts to provide an after-school open studio experience to teens and youth at-risk. Over 15,600 individuals and 2500 youth visited our galleries in 2006.
